Applying Biomimicry to Economies: Implications for urban design, net zero, & circularity.

I am honored to be participating in a live podcast with the Malaysia Green Building Council on applying biomimicry to our economies to address system-wide sustainability challenges.

I will be outlining the use of systems thinking (drawing from pattern recognition and cross-cutting analysis) to identify three governing components of sustainable economies—diversity, energy, and trade. Managing these components at regional and national levels has profound implications for green building, energy security, industrial and mixed industrial-urban systems, net zero, circularity, and other critical needs in a turbulent 21st century. Other concepts include the forms of diversity that confer resilience and productivity to an economy, the challenges and opportunities of an energy neutral economy, a balanced trade triangle, and an ecological explanation of the wealth gap (and how to shrink it). In closing, Giordanengo outlines a path for economic restoration. Case studies from the U.S., Ecuador, Sri Lanka, and Italy will be shared as time allows.
