What We Do

line

The Economic Restoration Institute helps industries, businesses, and governments forge lasting social and environmental benefits while supporting key economic needs. We pursue this balance with three strategic services: Sustainable Business Ventures, Regional & Industrial Planning, and Education & Research.

What is Economic Restoration?

Economic restoration provides new opportunities for business and industry in local and regional economies. And to have the greatest impact, solutions must make financial sense, and they must reflect the complexity of the entire system. Understanding that complexity, and developing financially responsible solutions, are key strengths of ERI.

  • Increased job and business opportunities for a greater diversity of people
  • Food and water security
  • Energy security
  • A community’s or business’s ability to thrive in the face of global supply chain disruptions, shifting labor markets, and other global turbulence
  • The capacity of a regional or state economy to meet consumer needs while enhancing the natural resource base we all depend on
  • Social benefits such as clean water, clean air, job security, creating and retaining local wealth, and new business opportunities for a great diversity of people

Economic restoration provides new opportunities for business and industry in our regional economies. But to have the greatest impact, solutions must make financial sense, and they must reflect the complexity of the entire system. Understanding that complexity, and forging financially responsible solutions, are key strengths of ERI.

Two challenges to restoring sustainable economies are: developing a common understanding of what “sustainability” means, and embracing the essential role of business and industry in the economic restoration process. You can learn more about the economic, social, and environmental challenges posed by our current economic model, and how ERI approaches sustainability in our Eco-Nomic Insights article, Redefining Sustainability for a Turbulent 21st Century.

Transforming our Economies in a Turbulent 21st Century

Restoration often focuses on increasing economic diversity, an essential component of sustainable and thriving economies–especially in turbulent times. Diverse economies are more resistant and resilient to supply chain disruptions, shifting global market forces, and other forces as explained in The Yang of Resilience. Diverse economies are more capable of meeting productivity needs with less energy, and providing a wide range of social, environmental, and economic benefits. Economic diversity is one of three foundational components that ERI addresses with strategic services and programs.

Times of great turbulence favor the evolved models,
not those of the past.
