Sustainable Business Ventures

The Economic Restoration Institute leverages private capital with grants and donations to provide impactful investment for businesses and industries dedicated to sustainable solutions for regional markets. To achieve the greatest impact, ERI investments target the foundation of the balanced trade pyramid, such as agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy systems, and waste-to-resources. Programs and businesses we invest in include:

  • Sustainable organizational structures and business systems: Cooperatives, agile manufacturing, ecological clusters (e.g., industrial parks and mixed-use zones where business share inputs, waste products, and other resources to improve financial and resource-use efficiencies).
  • Sustainable wood production: Forest thinning to produce engineered wood products, biomass energy, improved understory health, and other benefits while reducing wildfire risk and sustaining biodiversity.
  • Food sovereignty: Projects such as foodsheds, sustainable food manufacturing systems, and food distribution networks that improve the availability of healthy and culturally-relevant food for local communities.
  • Regenerative agriculture and biodynamic solutions: Agricultural systems that improve the resource-use efficiency and profitability of regional-scale producers, rebuild soil organic matter, and increase availability of locally-grown food.
  • Recycled product manufacturers: Circular business opportunities, and regional planning to stimulate circular economies.
